The Zimbabwe Film and Television School of Southern Africa (ZIFTESSA) recently invited artistes who are interested in training as filmmakers to submit their applications before the official training kicks off in March.

Those who would have successfully applied by March will be trained in the capital city for two-and-a-half years for a Diploma in Film Making, while for part time students will be trained for 18 months.

Aspiring filmmakers from Bulawayo who are interested in being part of the training course have since edged ZIFTESSA to provide students from the city of Kings with premises that will make it easy for them to study, especially part time students who are already employed.

Sunday Life contacted the press liaison of ZIFTESSA, James Million on the matter of film training premises in Bulawayo, fees required per semester, the number of students being targeted by the institution.

“Currently all courses are being held in Harare, but there are also crush programmes we do in conjunction with BAZ and those will be advertised on ZTV if funds are available. However, I will ask executive directors of the organisation on the issue of creating buildings in Bulawayo and other major cities of Zimbabwe to make it easy for part time students,” he said.

“We are expecting at least 80 full time students and a minimum of 30 part time students. Fees are paid per semester which costs $380 for full time trainees while $530 is required for part time students,” he said.

Million said five Ordinary Level subjects were required for students who were interested in being trained by the organisation.

“Students who are willing to apply should have at least 5 O-levels. There is no requirement for Maths and English. The requirements are relaxed to allow as many students as possible, so that there will be an increase in local content production, in line with the ongoing digitalisation and employment creation. However, a Diploma or Degree qualifications will be an added advantage. Application letters with certified copies of certificates and specific contact address and telephone numbers should be sent to the Director ZIFTESSA, P. Bag CY 7741 Causeway in Harare,” he said. ZIFTESSA offers courses like Scriptwriting Producing, Cinematography Production Design, Directing Sound and Editing Special Effects.-@NcubeBhekumuzi
