Woman (56) burnt to death during armed robbery

Police in Esigodini have launched a manhunt for two suspects linked to a murder and attempted murder at Ngenisa Farm in Mbalabala.

A 56-year-old woman was killed after the attackers allegedly set a cabin on fire.

The suspects, reportedly armed with a knife and an axe, allegedly assaulted the victims, poured petrol inside the cabin, locked them inside and set it alight before fleeing into the bush.

The woman died after being trapped in the burning cabin, while the second victim escaped with severe burns.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

“The ZRP is investigating a case of murder and attempted murder which occurred on July 23 at Ngenisa Farm in Esigodini where Tracy Simela, aged 56, was murdered,” he said.

“Two unknown male suspects, who were armed with a knife and an axe, allegedly attacked a complainant aged 46 and the victim before stealing an Oking cellphone, a Vodafone cellphone and US$20.

“The suspects allegedly assaulted the victims, poured petrol inside the cabin, locked them inside and set it on fire before fleeing into the bush. The victim died after being trapped in the burning cabin, while the complainant escaped with severe burns.
