The 21st February Movement Gala is a commemoration of President Mugabe’s 88th birthday through song and dance. The President’s birthday falls on 21 February.
Majahawodwa Ndlovu, affectionately known as Jeys, is among the top musicians from Bulawayo lined up for the celebrations.
He said he and his group Kozekulunge were more than ready for the gala.
“We really appreciate what the organisers are doing for us as musicians from Bulawayo.
“We will pay back for being afforded an opportunity to perform at a big function like the 21st February Movement celebrations by doing well on stage,” he said.
Jeys said it was an honour to be part of the entertaining team at the event.
In a statement, one of the organisers of the gig, Retired Major Anywhere Mutambudzi, said at the moment three groups from Bulawayo had confirmed their participation.
“Music groups from Bulawayo that confirmed their participation are Jeys Marabini, Iyasa and Light Machine Gun,” he said.
Rtd Major Mutambudzi said some of the big names in the line up include sungura maestro Alick Macheso, Dendera Kings heir Suluman Chimbetu, Born Free Crew, Cde Chinx Chingaira and senior lecturer Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria.
He said at this year’s gala there will be lots of prizes.
Rtd Major Mutambudzi said people would be asked to vote for their favourite musicians who would later win prizes.
“We are going to announce phone numbers that people would use when voting for their favourite musicians.
“This will be done only through an SMS,” he said.
Rtd Major Mutambudzi said fans who were going to correctly predict the best three musicians would be given prizes. “The first prize will be a night for two at A’Zambezi in Victoria Falls and a prize money of $300.
“The second prize will be a night for two at Ancient City in Masvingo and a prize money of $200,” he said.
Last year, the 21st February Movement Celebrations were held in Mt Darwin, Mashonaland Central province.
