THE National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe will hold an International Association of Athletics Federations course at Northlea High School this weekend. NAAZ boss Tendai Tagara said they are expecting at least 120 participants drawn from all the 10 provinces. “We’re holding this year’s first junior development officials’ course in Bulawayo starting on Friday evening and ending on Sunday at Northlea High School.

“We’re expecting about 120 participants,” he said.

Tagara said chairpersons from the National Association of Primary School Heads and the National Association of Secondary School Heads from all the 10 provinces were expected to attend the workshop.

“We will be working hand in hand with Naph and Nash throughout this development project as we will be dealing with school pupils under the age of 16 years,” he said.

Tagara said the Bulawayo Provincial Education Director Dan Moyo will officially open the event on Saturday.

He said they will also take advantage of the event to distribute the $12,500 worth of athletics kit they bought using the $25,000 they received from IAAF for the Kids Athletics Development Programme.

“We received $25,000 worth of athletics kits for the Kids Development Programme and we will distribute the kit to all the 10 provinces,” he said

Tagara said the target was to train at least 1,000 coaches by the end of the year.

The initiative is expected to stimulate the development of sport at grassroot level.
