Byo records more Covid-19 cases

BULAWAYO has recorded 36 new Covid-19 cases bringing the total number of cases in the province to 483.

According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care, 133 new Covid-19 positive cases were recorded countrywide bringing the total number of cases in the country to 1 611. The national Covid-19 death toll remains at 25.

All the 36 new cases in Bulawayo, which has now become the epicenter of the pandemic, were from local transmissions.

However nationally, 17 cases were reported from returning residents, all of them from South Africa.

Harare recorded 57 new cases, 42 of them local transmission, and 15 cases imported, while the Midlands province recorded 38 new cases, all of them from local transmissions.

Matabeleland North and Manicalands provinces each recorded one case, both of them from returning residents.

One hundred and thirty-three cases tested positive for Covid-19 today. These include returnees from South Africa (17) and 116 local cases who are all isolated.

22 of the local cases are contacts of known confirmed cases. Investigations are underway to establish the source of infection for the other 94 cases.
