Byo schools compete for place at girls’ netball national finals

BULAWAYO district schools will compete for the girls’ provincial netball crown at White City Stadium on Friday. Schools representing Reigate, Imbizo, Bulawayo Central, Khami and Mzilikazi districts would be vying to represent the province at the national finals to be held next week in Nyameni, Marondera.Sikhulile High, Mpopoma High and Njube High will represent Mzilikazi district while Sobukhazi and Luveve High schools are the Reigate representatives.

Imbizo will be represented by Tennyson Hlabangana, Mncumbatha Secondary and Induna High. From Khami would be Pumula and Amhlophe High schools, with Founders High and Eveline High representing Bulawayo Central.

Sikhulile coach Karen Marechera said her girls were ready for the challenge.

“We’re geared up for the competition and are hopeful that we will retain our title as provincial champions,” said Marechera.

In 2014, Sikhulile won the district event and came fourth in the national tournament held in the resort town of Kariba.

Sobukhazi sports director Marvellous Mlambo said her team would challenge strongly for the provincial title.

“We’re convinced we will make it to the national finals,” said Mlambo.

Sobukhazi High were the Reigate district and provincial champions three years ago.
