THE Bulawayo Table Tennis league is planning to increase the number of participating teams in the coming season.
The league which will resume at the end of February next year is expecting many participants from higher learning institutions and training centres to register.
This year’s gong for Most Disciplined team was clinched by ZRP Bulawayo in the men’s category, while ZRP Fairbridge claimed the women’s award after being the only teams that managed to register and field players in the league.
Speaking to Sunday Life Sport, Bulawayo Table Tennis Association chairman Lunga Ndlovu said they were on a drive to expand the league and include more participants.
“We are planning to increase the number of participants and we are expecting many teams to register for our next coming season especially from institutions like the National University of Science and Technology, United College Education, Bulawayo Polytechnic, Lupane State University and the School of Mines,” Ndlovu said during an interview.
“This year we have reduced the affiliation fees for joining the league from previously charged $100 to $60, and I am confident that the reduction in registration fees will serve as encouragement for other teams to join.”
Ndlovu also revealed that having a league is crucial because that is where players for national games are identified.
“Having more players participate in the league will improve their skills and take the league to a highly competitive level as more games will be played. During these league games this is where we will have an opportunity to identify players for the national games,” he told Sunday Life Sport. @J_sihwa
