THE Bulawayo City Council is expected to take delivery of two water tenders from the United Kingdom donated to the local authority under its partnership with the Operation Florian team.
Operation Florian is a Britain non-governmental organisation that specialises in capacitating developing countries emergency services.
BCC has been in partnership with Operation Florian since 2010 and has received various firefighting equipment under the facility.
According to the latest council report, the local authority is set to receive water tender trucks, although it will have to foot the various shipping costs, which amount to GBP£33 500.
GBP£33 500 is equivalent to USD$46 631.
“To date, Council had taken delivery of 17 fire engines, an ambulance, 9, 20 foot containers filled with an assortment of firefighting and rescue equipment worth millions of dollars. The Chamber Secretary (Mrs Sikhangele Zhou) was in receipt of communication from the organisation wherein they proposed to make a donation of Two Water Tenders (DAF Trucks) from the United Kingdom to Bulawayo City Council.
“The fire engines will be shipped from a United Kingdom port to Walvis Bay in Namibia. On arrival in Namibia it will be the benefactor’s responsibility to arrange release and then transport them to its destination in Bulawayo. The documentation will be supplied by the shipping agent in the UK to named person and address specified by Bulawayo City Council,” reads part of the report.
The donation will reportedly include a container with hand tools, hydraulic rescue equipment, uniforms, PPE, portable pumps, emergency lighting units, power saws, cutting and grinding machines and discs standpipes, small gear, tablets and laptops for GIS, and vehicle spares.
