THE Bulawayo Western Social Soccer League (BWSSL) will officially launch this morning with a four-team tournament scheduled for Ndola Stadium in Iminyela. The four teams that top the log standings are set to provide entertainment during the launch which is being bankrolled by Kingdom Blue Funeral Services. BWSSL broke away from the Bulawayo Social Soccer League following clashes between the clubs and the executives.

The league kicked off in February but secretary, Daniel Mlotshwa said they felt it was necessary to announce their arrival through a bash and hence today’s launch.

“We have been courting various commercial partners and I am glad that we managed to get the backing of Kingdom Blue who are financing the launch and the tourney. We intend to be one of the top social leagues in the western areas hence we are serious about courting funders,” he said. Kingdom Blue is a South Africa-based funeral parlour that is venturing into Zimbabwe.

Teams taking part in the tournament are Ndola Stars, Sakhelene, Magwegwe United and Fireworks. The teams will share 11 balls that were donated by the sponsor and there are also some monetary prizes.

Besides the football entertainment, Mlotshwa said they would be using the launch to reach out to people concerning health issues as they have partnered Population Services International, National Aids Council and Youth Creative Ideas to provide free HIV testing and counselling services and prepex circumcision.

Clubs that are on BWSSL’s books include Zulu Chiefs, Ndola Stars, Magwegwe United, Mabutweni Allstars, Fireworks, Drugs Section, Mayellow FC, Finance, Nketa 8 Oldtimers and Real Magwegwe.
