FIVE schools will represent Bulawayo Metropolitan Province at the national finals of the Youth Education through Sport (YES) games in Masvingo early next month. These are Amhlophe, Eveline, Magwegwe, Mpumelelo and Josiah Chinamano Primary School who were victors at the provincial finals held at Amhlophe on Saturday. They shrugged of competition from 21 schools as they competed in five sporting disciplines and community service.
Eveline High School defended their girls’ volleyball title while Mpumelelo were crowned boys’ soccer champions. The hosts Amhlophe won in netball while Magwegwe High School booked their ticket after winning girls’ soccer.
Emkhandeni-based primary school Josiah Chinamano won the boys’ volleyball segment to complete the five teams to carry the city’s hopes at the finals.
Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC) provincial co-ordinator Sam Dzvimbu said he was impressed with the level of competition exhibited at the games.
In Matabeleland South, Simunye and Flying Eagles from Nswazi District won the girls’ soccer and netball competitions respectively at Mzinyathini Secondary School.
Provincal co-ordinator Lifa Mpofu said the festival was closely contested and hopes the teams will showcase the same competitiveness in the finals.
