THE countdown to the return of the Zambezi Lager Bonfire Festival is on, with Bulawayo acts Djembe Monks and Kotwane Hikwa leading a strong line-up after South African hit-maker Musa Keys was dropped from the event.
Set for July 4 at Donnybrook Raceway in Harare, the festival returns after a four-year hiatus, with organisers promising a bigger, better organised and more immersive winter celebration.
While Musa Keys had initially been billed as the headline act, organisers have since released an updated poster that excludes the South African star, placing the spotlight firmly on Zimbabwean talent.

Festival-goers can now look forward to performances from Djembe Monks, Kotwane Hikwa, DJ Klique, ExQ, WowRae, Sam Cosmic, Takura and Tammy Moyo, among other local entertainers expected to light up the annual outdoor event.
The festival’s return marks the revival of one of Zimbabwe’s most popular outdoor lifestyle experiences, blending music, camping, storytelling and social interaction around its signature bonfire.
In a statement, Delta Beverages said the event has grown into much more than a music festival.
“The Mighty Zambezi Lager Bonfire Festival has always been more than just an event; it is a unique lifestyle and cultural experience created for our Zambezians.
“It brings people together to enjoy Zambezi Lager while celebrating the great outdoors, music and storytelling, all centred on the warmth of one large, unifying bonfire. We are excited, and preparations are well underway to bring back Zimbabwe’s Own Bonfire, the ultimate winter celebration,” reads part of the statement.
