The Ministry of Lands and Rural Resettlement will soon table amendments to 99-year leases issued to land reform beneficiaries before Cabinet.
Once approved, the amendments — crafted by Government and the Bankers’ Association of Zimbabwe (Baz) — will likely turn the leases into bankable collateral.
The minister, Dr Douglas Mombeshora said: “We are now in the final phase of the process of making the 99-year leases bankable. As Government, we are pushing for the document to be effective immediately so that the majority of our farmers can secure loans from financial institutions.
“We are not in a position to give you details of the amendments because the matter has to be brought before Cabinet first.”
