CAF B course set for Byo

BULAWAYO coaches have been presented with an opportunity to bring their coaching badges in line with Zifaa��s new minimum coaching requirements with a Caf B course set for Bulawayo from 14 November to 1 December.

Veteran coach and administrator Gibson Homela, a former member of the Zifa high performance technical committee, will instruct the 18-day course to be held at the YWCA centre.

Zifa is yet to name the assessor although indications are that it could be either Nelson Matongorere or technical director Taurai Mangwiro.

Mangwiro assessed a Caf C course that was recently held in Gweru.

Twice this year Zifa has revised minimum requirements for national teams and Premier Soccer League club coaches compelling the gaffers to be holders of Caf A Licences together with Zifa Level Four certificates to sit on their respective technical benches.

The new minimum requirements cascade down to primary school coaches.

For the Bulawayo Caf B course participants will fork out $600.

The fee is inclusive of material to be used during the course, food and accommodation.

a�?Coaches have complained about the prohibitive costs that are charged for the Caf Licences but I think the amount charged for the Bulawayo course is fair considering that everything will be provided during the course,a�? said Homela.

The course will be divided into theoretical and practical sessions as well as administrative and scientific aspects of the game.

a�?A head coach oversees the work of other professionals on his technical bench such as the team doctor, psychotherapist and manager so it is important to cover the administrative and scientific aspects of the game.

a�?At the end of the course coaches should be able to go back to their clubs and implement all the pillars of the game,a�? he said.

Participants will write examinations and only the successful candidates will be awarded the Caf B badges. A Confederation of African Football (Caf) official will oversee the examinations.

There has been concern that some coaches rush through their badges, in some instances coaches attaining Caf C and Caf B Licences in a single year, an anomaly not accepted by Fifa.

a�?Ita��s important to note that after attaining the Caf B Licence coaches will be required to go back to their clubs and work for a year or more before proceeding to the next badge which is the Caf A Licence,a�? added Homela.
