FCB Nyasa Big Bullets FC coach Kalisto Pasuwa has said his Malawi side needs more than just ‘running everywhere’ on the pitch to excel in the CAF Champions League.
The Zimbabwean spoke to Bullets website after being drawn against Dragon FC of Equatorial Guinea in the first preliminary round of the continental league.
“It is not about running everywhere. You need to be very tactical to progress,” he said.
The Bullets mentor described Dragon as a closed book; hence posing a threat to his side.
“These are unknown opponents and that is how tough it will be for us. We don’t need to underestimate them,” Pasuwa said.
The former Dynamos coach has established himself with the 16-time Malawi league champions after winning four consecutive league titles.
However, Pasuwa has failed to transfer the domestic dominance onto the international stage in three attempts.
The former Warriors mentor bemoaned the chopping and changing in his squad, saying this deprives most of his players of international experience required in the Champions League.
Bullets had their finest run in the Champions League when they reached the group stages in 2004.
The draw for the Champions League and the Confederation Cup took place on July 25 2023 ahead of the preliminary round matches scheduled to start on the weekend of August 18 and 20 2023.
The overall winner between Bullets and Dragon will date TP Mazembe in the second preliminary round.
