TEENAGE footballer Vernon Masara, is part of Burnley Football Club’s 14 new first-year scholars that have been added to the youth team ahead of the upcoming 2023/24 season.
Masara, who was born to Zimbabwean parents, Anyway Masara and Lizzie Chitsiga, joined the Burnley youth team at the age of eight and had the opportunity to play with the Under-21s last season.
Nine of the 14 scholars, including Masara, have progressed through the academy from a young age with many having been with the club since Foundation Phase and Pre-Academy. Amongst those are Zach Johnson and Masara, with the latter featuring for the Under-21 side last season.
Joining Johnson and Masara are Noah Adekoya, Luca Jackson, Frankie McMahon Brown, Logan Carlin and Jack McEvilly, who all joined the Club during their Under-12 season, with Carlin being Burnley-born and McEvilly already featuring heavily for the Under-18s.
The new scholars and their parents also enjoyed a question and answer from current Under-21s Dan Sassi, Joe Westley and Charlie Casper, in which they reflected on their respective journeys and gave advice to the Under-18s.
