JOHANNESBURG. — Ghana’s national Under-17 soccer team has been disqualified from the 2015 Under-17 Championship for age cheating.
The Black Starlets had beaten Cameroon over two legs to qualify for the tournament to be played in Niger, but the Cubs officials reported Ghana for suspected age cheating.
The Ghana Football Association has confirmed receiving a letter from Caf for the disqualification after the African Football governing body upheld the opinion of its Medical Committee on the eligibility of a player in the Black Starlets squad.
Cameroon filed a protest against seven of the players in the Black Starlets after losing 2-1 in the first leg match of the third round.
Caf’s Medical Committee submitted findings that showed that Ghana were guilty, but the West Africans have said that they will protest the decision.
According to the Ghana FA, it received a correspondence from Caf on Saturday “claiming the analysis of the MRI report from a Medical Centre in Ghana contradicts the analysis of two Caf medical experts on the eligibility of one of the players.
“However, the Radiologist Consultant who carried out both the initial MRI tests and rescanning confirmed that the said player was within the age limit.” The FA statement added: “The Ghana Football Association is dissatisfied with the decision of the Caf Under-17 Organising Committee and has accordingly filed an appeal with the Caf Appeals Committee.” — Supersport.com
