Caf fine Ethiopia US$5 000

was imposed on the Ethiopian Football Association for the conduct of the team’s supporters during their opening African Cup of Nations match against Zambia in Nelspruit on Monday.

Fans threw missiles, including plastic vuvuzelas, on to the pitch after Tassew was sent off 10 minutes before half time for a flying kick on Zambia’s Chisamba Lungu.

Caf’s disciplinary committee has imposed a two-match ban on Tassew for violent conduct.
The referee showed the ’keeper the red cad as he was being carried off the pitch on a stretcher. The Group C match ended 1-1.

Meanwhile, security in Port Elizabeth needs to be bolstered for the remainder of the African Cup of Nations tournament, the Caf said on Tuesday.

The continental body’s disciplinary board filed a warning to DR Congo after two Congolese fans ran onto the pitch at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in their Group B clash against Ghana on Sunday.

“At the 55th minute, a Congolese spectator managed to enter the field of play,” Caf said in a statement.

“The same incident was repeated at the 65th minute when another Congolese fan entered and ran in the field of play.

“The board decided to address a warning letter to the local organising committee advising them that they need to reinforce the security in Port Elizabeth.”
The match ended in a 2-2 draw.

And after showing reluctance to travel to South Africa because of “safety concerns”, Emmanuel Adebayor has allegedly been the victim of a robbery at his Sun City Hotel — along with his Togo teammates.
MTNFootball reports that The Hawks were robbed shortly after their arrival in South Africa for the African Cup of Nations.

The details of the case are unknown at this point, although some cash and personal belongings are said to have been taken.

“Police are conducting an investigation, therefore we are waiting for the latter to be completed before releasing any comments,” an official told MTNFootball. — Supersport.com.
