LOCAL football clubs that aspire to be champions and play in the African safari should start now to seriously invest in women’s football.
CAF from next year will only allow teams that have female clubs teams to take part in the CAF Champions and Confederation Cup.
This is according to CAF Club Licensing senior manager, Muhammad Sidat.
Sidat says a club must have a female team before being allowed to participate in the 2022-23 CAF Champions League and the next editions.
The 2021/2022 campaign kicks off next month and club champions FC Platinum are already training.
But from next year FC Platinum and other clubs that aim for the league title and probably play in the continental tournaments will need to have their house in order.
FC Platinum doesn’t have a women’s football club. They only have a netball team, Platinum Queens.
Very few Premiership clubs already have a women’s team in their setup.
The army side Black Rhinos have a very competitive women’s team, Black Rhinos Queens, involved in the inaugural CAF women’s Champions League.
Harare City, Ngezi Platinum, and Yadah are among the few teams that already have female sides.
