Call for Boko Haram elimination

LAGOS. — THE Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has called on the Lake Chad Basin countries to urgently activate the Multinational Joint Task Force to eliminate the Boko Haram insurgency.

The call follows the deadly attack by the terrorist group, which claimed the lives of 30 soldiers from Niger Republic and two from Nigeria.

Sixty seven other soldiers were reported wounded during the assault.

OIC secretary-general Iyad Ameen Madani expressed dismay at the continuing violence by the insurgent group in the Lake Chad Basin.

He conveyed his sympathy and condolence to the authorities of the two countries as well as to the families of the victims.

Madani reaffirmed the principled position of the OIC against terrorism as an enemy of humanity and assured countries in the region of the determination of the OIC to continue to support their counter terrorism efforts.

Founded in 1969, OIC is the collective voice of the Muslim world and works to safeguard, protect and promote international peace and harmony.
