He said the increasing trade volumes should be supported.
“Given the extent of confidence Mauritius is showing, there is need to introduce a direct flight from Harare via Mozambique which will be the impetus to the whole intention of developing trade relations going forward,” he said.
“We will need the Government to consider the issue of direct flight for we are having a lot of business interest between the two countries.”
Mr Norupiri noted that there used to be direct flights between the two countries.
“Air Mauritius used to fly direct to Harare and Air Zimbabwe used to do the same but that is no longer the case. One has to go via Dubai or South Africa,” he said.
Mr Norupiri said there was need to continue focusing on things that added value to the two countries, namely improving trade and sharing experiences.
“Our mining sector has recently entered a phase of vigorous expansion and has the potential to develop into a major pillar of the economy,” he said.
Mr Norupiri said Mauritius had expressed confidence in trading with Zimbabwe through their investment in AfrAsia Bank (formerly Kingdom Bank).
Speaking at the same occasion, Enterprise Mauritius chairperson, Amedee Darga said Mauritius was now the leading investor in Zimbabwe.
