Cde Nyamupinga said just like in Parliament, they wanted to have women councillors occupying 50 percent of all local authorities. “We are using women leaders in political parties to appeal to their parties that women councillors be given an equal number of seats as men,” she said.

Cde Nyamupinga said women chairpersons from the three political parties in Government were already requesting their political parties to reserve those seats. “Cde Oppah Muchinguri (Zanu-PF), Mrs Theresa Makone (MDC-T) and Ms Thandiwe Mlilo (MDC) are in the process of requesting that our women councillors be equally represented in their respective political parties. We believe since these women are members of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus they have enough influence to get our request considered,” she said.
