Call for modernisation of rural schools

VUNGU legislator, Cde Brown Ndlovu says there is an urgent need to modernise schools in rural areas to ensure that the quality of education and learning environment is at par with those in urban areas.

Speaking recently after donating cement to Chisadza Secondary School and Mazankwe Primary School, Cde Ndlovu said it was important to upgrade rural schools so they offer high quality education like schools in urban areas.

The cement that Cde Ndlovu donated will be used in the construction of additional classrooms at the two schools.

Cde Ndlovu said he was responding to calls from Government for individuals and organisations to complement Government efforts to improve the learning environment for pupils in rural areas.

“In some parts of the country, school children are walking long distances to school and this affects their performance,” he said.

Cde Ndlovu said schools in rural areas need to be equipped with modern learning gadgets such as computers so that they keep abreast with technology.

“We are now living in a global village that favours technologically savvy people. We want to catch up with other schools so that we are not left behind and this is only possible of we have modern learning tools,” he said.

Cde Ndlovu also emphasised the importance of preparing rural students for higher and tertiary education where the focus now is on Education 5.0—an educational model that encourages skills learning and technological adaptability.

“At higher and tertiary education level, they are already talking about Education 5.0, which also encourages skills learning and technological adaptability.

“We must therefore prepare our children in the rural areas so that they will not struggle at universities or colleges,” he said.

Chisadza Secondary School and Mazankwe Primary School, both in rural Vungu, are among the many schools that need to be refurbished to meet modern standards.

“I donated cement to Chisadza Secondary School and Mazankwe Primary School for construction of classroom blocks as well as refurbishing other dilapidated infrastructure to match world standards,” said Cde Ndlovu.

Community members have welcomed Cde Ndlovu’s efforts saying the school authorities were finding it difficult to mobilise the required resources to upgrade the two schools.

Ms Nyarai Bhebhe said the community appreciates Cde Ndlovu’s commitment to improving the learning environment for their children.

“I am happy with the vision of our Member of Parliament who wants our schools upgraded to improve the learning environment for our children,” she said.

Ms Bhebhe said Cde Ndlovu’s initiative is a vital step towards bridging the educational gap between rural and urban areas.
