Call for more herbal clinics in Chipinge

Luthando Mapepa
CHIPINGE herbalist Mr James Gabaza has called on the Ministry of Health and Child Care to set up more herbal clinics across the country to improve health care in the country.
Mr Gabaza, who is also the Manicaland Provincial Traditional Medical Council chairperson, said many people were turning to traditional medicine hence the need to have more herbal clinics.

He said they had a register in which some people who had lost hope of being cured of various ailments recovered after being put on herbal therapy.

“There is an increase of people seeking traditional medicine in Chipinge over the past years. I think this is so because patients rate highly the services offered here.

“In our records, everyone who took our medicines recovered. We have received many calls from the length and breadth of this country and beyond from people inquiring about our traditional medicines.

“Some are inquiring about the location of herbal clinics across the country and our parent ministry ought to move with speed to address the people’s plight,’’ he said.

Mr Gabaza said Government had agreed on the idea of establishing more herbal clinics across the country long back, but nothing was being done on the ground.

“To stop people travelling all the way to Chipinge to seek herbs, I think Government should intervene and set herbal clinics in all major business centres. We have discovered that some people lose lives owing to health challenges which can be solved,” he added.

Mr Gabaza said as herbalists they have ethics and laws that govern their operations.

“People should also know that herbalists have their own ethics. We do not divulge patient’s privacy to anyone, so people must be free to approach us for assistance,” said Mr Gabaza.
