The Senator for Beitbridge constituency, Cde Tambudzani Mohadi, has bemoaned the long distances people in the district walk to access primary health care facilities.
Most people in the district walk an average 10 to 15km. She said Government and its partners should attend to the issue as a matter of urgency. Cde Mohadi said the worst affected were those living in the most remote parts of the district.
In a recent interview, she said it was very critical to construct more clinics in the area which are adequately stocked with medicines and are accessible to the majority of the people.
“The situation in some areas is deplorable. We are appealing for Government and its partners to come to the community’s rescue. The distance between clinics and people must be reduced through the construction of more facilities,” said Cde Mohadi.
“We have a situation where people have to walk for about 15km to access clinics. This is strenuous. In some places members of the community are willing to contribute later to build more facilities.
“So far people in Malabe area, some 100km east of Beitbridge, are in dire need of a standard health facility.”
