Science and Technology Minister Heneri Dzinotyiwei said biotechnology was useful in different sectors.
He was speaking while officially opening the National Biotechnology workshop in Harare yesterday.

“The emerging technology should be used positively to transform grassroots in rural communities,” said Minister Dzinotyiwei.
“In the sectors of agriculture, health and industries, we are operating at a level that is not below the standard in the world and one of the primary goals is to learn and utilise emerging technology for national development.”

Minister Dzinotyiwei said there was need to develop detailed data banks for biotechnology for future references. He dismissed the assertion that biotechnology foods caused obesity and infections, saying this was misleading.

“Biotechnology is one of the tools to be used to get the country out of the state it is right now,” he said.
