by voting wisely in the forthcoming polls to ensure that the MDC formations do not get into power to establish a puppet regime, Zanu-PF national commissar Cde Webster Shamu has said.
He said it was important for Zimbabweans to treat the country’s independence as sacrosanct.
Cde Shamu said this while addressing war collaborators during the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Collaborators Association national conference held in Masvingo at the weekend.
Zimbabweans, Cde Shamu said, should never forget the hardships they went through during the colonial era.
“We witnessed horrific episodes in this country during the colonial era and that alone gave us the courage to fight for the liberation of Zimbabwe to remove the racist colonial government,” said Cde Shamu.
The Zanu-PF national commissar challenged Zimbabweans to revive the spirit of Chimurenga and shun the MDCs at the polls.
He said Zanu-PF would soon embark on a massive door to door campaign to woo voters ahead of the crunch polls.
“Zanu-PF will embark on a massive door to door campaign in which we will teach and spread the spirit of Chimurenga to people in all the four corners of the country,” said Cde Shamu who is also Minister of Media, Information and Publicity.
“We will not rest on our laurels while the country is being threatened by imperialists and their puppets who want to reverse the gains of independence. This election is going to be do or die and Zanu-PF will definitely win.”
Cde Shamu said Zanu-PF was the only party which recognised the contributions made by war veterans as evidenced by the rigorous push for their rights in the new constitution.
He added that Zanu-PF was a flexible party that welcomed those willing to return and work for the defence of the revolution.
Ziliwaco national chairman Cde Pupurai Togarepi said war collaborators would not allow imperialists to recolonise the country through their local proxies in the MDCs.
He castigated the British government and other Western nations for pumping billions of dollars to prop the MDC in a bid to effect regime change.
Ziliwaco Trust was formed to educate young people on the history of the liberation struggle.
Top Zanu-PF officials among them politburo members Cde Dzikamai Mavhaire and Cde Josiah Hungwe, Copac co-chairperson Cde Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana and members of the party’s Central Committee attended the conference.
