CHIREDZI Senator Ottilia Maluleke has appealed to the Government to speedily repair the damaged Chilonga Bridge, which connects the greater Chikombedzi and Chiredzi Town.
The bridge, across Runde River, was damaged by floods two months ago.
The damage means travellers from Chikombedzi either have to go via Rutenga or Mupapa to connect to Chiredzi Town.
This, Sen Maluleke said, poses a serious challenge for villagers, especially businesspeople wishing to restock.
“We appeal to our Government under the stewardship of President Mnangagwa to give our people in Chikombedzi relief by repairing the Chilonga Bridge that was damaged by Runde flood waters,” she said.
“Our people in Chikombedzi are facing serious challenges if they want to travel to Chiredzi, which is the district’s commercial capital and also houses key Government offices.”
Sen Maluleke says Chikombedzi farmers are also finding it hard to transport their agricultural produce to the GMB depot at Nandi near Chiredzi.
Traveling to Chiredzi via Rutenga or Mupapa Bridge makes the distance to Chiredzi longer by at least 125km.
