One of the two teenagers who sometime in 2013 allegedly ambushed and shot at six cars on separate occasions in one night while wearing camouflage is on the run and has been issued with a warrant of arrest. Ralph Nicholson (18) is believed to have sneaked out of the country during the time when he was removed from remand.
Nicholson allegedly committed the offence with his friend Taylor Cameron (19).
In January last year, the pair successfully made an application for refusal of further remand and the State was ordered to proceed by way of summons.
However, when the State’s house was now in order, prosecutor Ms Francesca Mukumbiri summoned the pair to appear in court for commencement of trial, but Nicholson was in no-show.
Magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe issued him with a warrant of arrest and this prompted the State to separate trials and proceed with Cameron.
In his defence, Cameron through his lawyer Mr Admire Rubaya of Rubaya and Chatambudza Legal Practitioners, denied the charges.
He is facing five counts of attempted murder and malicious damage to property.
“The accused will state that these are clearly malicious, frivolous and vexatious allegations being peddled by the complainants who are not sure as to who exactly maliciously damaged the listed property and they are being used by the arresting details who are afraid of a report of assaulting the accused.
“He will state that he was never found in possession of any firearm and he never handled any firearm to the extent of discharging it in a public place,” read part of the defence outline.
