Campo hails Young Sables

Wallabies fullback arrived in the country on Sunday and had his first training session with the Young Sables at Harare Sports Club, a day after South African specialist coach Nico de Villiers jetted in.
The duo is in the country to help the Young Sables prepare for the JWRT before their departure for the United States.
The Young Sables will camp in France for 10 days and play two friendly games before travelling for the big tournament.
De Villiers has been with the Young Sables before these preparations.
But it is the Campese effect that has spiced the Under-20 camp as they get tips from the 1991 World Cup Player of the Tournament.
Campese scored six tries in the competition.
The coaches are coming to Zimbabwe under an agreement backed by the International Rugby Board, the Zimbabwe Rugby Union and the Zimbabwe Under-20 committee led by former Sables winger Aaron Jani.
“I am impressed with the way the boys are appreciating what is coming their way, they are so attentive, they are talented and what more would one need if his players have such attributes?
“It is always difficult to assess the players in such early stages like in my case because I am coming from outside but I have noted they have good, talented players whom I have enjoyed working with.
“The good thing about the boys is that they are willing to learn and there is no better team to work with than a group of boys who are willing to learn and that makes the coach’s job a lot easier.
“There is still some work to be done, though, so hopefully we will put the little time we have to good use this week but I am impressed with the knowledge the coaches have and this helps the players to be the best they cane be,” said Campese.
Donning the Australia jersey for 15 years and playing for New South Wales for 11 years, Campese was the first man in Australian rugby history to play 101 tests for his country.
He is one of only five players in the world to have played more than 100 games for their country.
Campese will also give motivational speeches to the Young Sables before their departure at a fund-raising dinner set for La Seranata tomorrow night.
However, it’s not only the players that have caught the Australian’s e’es.
Coach Brighton Chivandire and his two assistants Godwin “Jaws” Murambiwa and Garry Hewitt appear to have also impressed the Aussie legend.
“I have had two training sessions with the boys so far with the first being yesterday (Sunday) when I arrived, it was a bit relaxed environment but that helped us as much as possible,” said Campese.
“The coaches know exactly what they want and they are firm about whatever stance they take and it also makes it easy for them to gel with the players.
“I will help more on skill and if the players get that right then they will be okay and good to play.”
The Young Sables trooped into camp yesterday but the trio of lock Graham Logan, Ian McIntosh and centre Takudzwa Chieza were expected from their foreign bases last night.
The Young Sables received full kit valued at US$20 000 from Seed Co at Harare Sports Club yesterday.
The kit features playing kit (socks, shorts and jerseys), training kit (shorts, T-shirts, vests and tracksuits), bags, caps and golf shirts among others items.
Last year, the company also chipped in with kit but for this year’s campaign, Seed Co has upped their kit sponsorship deal by US$12 000 from US$8 000.
“Such determination (by the Young Sables to win the Junior Africa Cup) encourages Seed Co to partner with rugby as there is hope of developing the Zimbabwean talent and I would like to congratulate the Young Sables and the officials for the hard work depicted by their achievements.
“We hope this sponsorship will go a long way in enhancing skills and experience to each team member,” read a statement from Seed Co.
Jani saluted the sponsors.
“PSMAS have also given us full medical cover sponsorship, thanks to (PSMAS chief executive) Doctor Cuthbert Dube, as they will cover us for the whole year in both the JWRT and CAR tournaments.
“They have come to help us with full medical cover for the players starting from the trip to France, the JWRT and the Junior Africa Cup as they have also contributed towards the medical kit.”
