AFTER the humiliating defeat to Pakistan recently, the Lady Chevrons must quickly find their feet and be competitive when they face South Africa in September.
Zimbabwe will host South Africa Women for a five-match T20I series in September this year as the Lady Chevrons continue with their rebuilding process. Confirmation of the tour also came just a day after former captain Mary-Anne Musonda was appointed manager of the team.
Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni indicated that the appointment was part of a broader plan to strengthen the women’s game.
According to the ICC, the South Africa tour will be a landmark occasion for Zimbabwe cricket, marking the first time the South African women’s side will travel to Zimbabwe for a bilateral series.
“The series will be played at Queen Sports Club in Bulawayo, with the first match set for September 11.
“Zimbabwe’s last home assignment came in September 2025 when they hosted the UAE. Since then, Zimbabwe have spent much of their time on the road, undertaking notable tours to Pakistan and New Zealand.”
Both the New Zealand and Pakistan tours proved disastrous for the young Lady Chevrons side.
After a disappointing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier 2026 campaign, the Lady Chevrons have started building for the future, with most of the senior players falling by the wayside.
“We are pleased to welcome South Africa Women to Zimbabwe for what promises to be a historic and exciting series,” Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni was quoted as saying by the ICC.
“South Africa are one of the strongest teams in world cricket and this tour presents our players with a valuable opportunity to test themselves against elite opposition in home conditions.
“We believe these matches will contribute significantly to the development of our national team, while also inspiring the next generation of women to take up the sport.”
