The Ok Grand Challenge reaches its climax on 1 June when a field of 15 top class birds of horse racing are loaded to explode over 1 800m for the top prize.
The build-up has been intensive with several promotional activities taking place at various OK Zimbabwe shops nationwide for the past six weeks. Fans of the sport as well as shoppers from all walks of life have been participating in a shopping extravaganza.
They are expected invade the racecourse to witness the proceedings while those at home will have the privilege to watch the live broadcast. On Saturday, the OK Grand Challenge Grade (2) Race will be the main event of the day pencilled in as race seven on the card, a race traditionally reserved for the feature race of the day.
For non-punters this competition usually comes as an experience as they get a chance to try their luck in horse racing by virtue of their entry through their shopping errands. Peggson, a four year- old gelding from the stable of Bridget Stidolph, is the highest rated runner as well as a stubborn opponent when it comes to competitions of such a distance.
Due to his impressive career record is expected to make his presence felt, surrounded by other quality runners it will be interesting to see how much he can take in search glory.
The defending Champion Roman Discent is also in though he is behind a number of horses in terms of ratings. However, as a previous winner over a similar distance he cannot be ignored when push comes to shove as well as the second runner up last year Simona.
Simona is a winner of several races before a long layoff some time ago, dubbed “the comeback kid” of racing due to the performances she displayed after returning to the track.
Putting into consideration timings posted by some of the runners over distances more or less this one, Simona, Pessgon, Amsterdam, Heir Liner are expected to noise making all the way to the finishing post.
