HERENTALS are just unique – last year they transformed themselves into the Kings of the Kapital.
The Students were the best performing Harare club in the Castle Lager Premiership race.
They finished fifth on the table and pushed Dynamos and CAPS United, who have a combined 26 league championships, into their shadow.
This season they are competing very well and find themselves being the second best performing club from the capital so far in the campaign.
They are just behind Scottland who are in the championship race after having picked 12 points in the past 10 days.
The Students might not win the league championship but they have a fine chance of winning the Chbuku Super Cup.
After all, they have reached the final of the same tournament in the past, only to lose to Bulawayo Chiefs at Barbourfields.
Now, they can start to dream again and they have been paired against Highlanders in the first round of the tourney.
The venue of that tie is yet to be announced.
It’s a measure of their fine set-up that Herentals never find themselves in the relegation scrap and they can beat even the best clubs in the league.
They have already beaten Dynamos 2-0 this season.
Their skipper Tino Benza has found his form again after finally adjusting to the experiment of playing not as the spearhead of the attack.
There has been speculation that Tino might move from his father’s club during this mid-season transfer with some reports claiming he could be on his way to Scottland.
What is clear is that the Students will need their captain to be firing on all cylinders if they really entertain hopes of winning the Chibuku Super Cup this season.
