Can you find your country on a map?

At this film’s opening we have not the least idea where we are going to be in 10 minutes time. And, for me, this is one of the highlights of this very entertaining film.
Made in India and in the Hindi language with English subtitles, we are initially given a very welcome tour of my hometown, New York City.
Agastya, a tall, handsome Asian has been living in New York for several years and has virtually forgotten his birthplace in Paglapur, India. In fact, on this very day, he has been given the leadership due to death of his predecessor of the organisation.
He and Diva, his live in Indian beauty, have planned a night of riotous celebration. All is interrupted by word from Paglapur that his father is dying.
Agastya and Diva pack and are off for a sudden and unexpected return visit to Paglapur.
Typical of the license, which this film’s makers have taken with the normal rules of the game, we in the audience are informed that neither the airlines nor anyone else has ever heard of Paglapur.
The best they can do for him, he is told, is to fly him to Palanpan.
Arriving there, Agastya and Diva make their way by use of the magic, for which cinema is famous, to the unheard-of (non-existent) town of his birthplace. And there they learn that news of his father’s impending demise was simply a ruse to get him to visit.
But this being a film of extreme Asian farce his arrival in Paglapur happens to coincide with a lethal attack upon the town from monsters from outer space. I, for one, am not complaining about this trumped-up coincidence because I, like most movie-goers, never object when we are highly entertained.
And that is exactly what happens for the next hour, as we meet the universally bizarre denizens of outer space (as imagined by the moviemakers of Bombay’s Hollywood).
Of interest is the manner to which both Agastya and Diva totally divest themselves of their New York persona and revert to their childhood beings as bizarre as the rest of the townspeople.
