South Africa-based Gospel sensation Canaan Nyathi is floating on top of the cream after the music video of his song Biggie Biggie, got him nominated for Best Music Video at the 18th edition of the South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Crown Gospel Awards.
The much anticipated awards will be held on 23 November, at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre Complex in Durban, South Africa.
Other creatives nominated with Nyathi in the category are EBMQ, Sibusiso Nzima and Kingdmusic.
Biggie Biggie song was done under the banner of millionaire Passion Java’s recording label, produced by South Africa-based Cliff M and Spirit Zw.
The crisp, high-quality visuals were shot and directed by Shawn Ray.
From his base in Johannesburg, Nyathi said it’s a great honour for the song that celebrates the greatness of God through vibrant African worship, to receive such recognition.
“This was my first time ever recording a song in a studio — I usually do live recordings during concerts. It was also my first time shooting a music video, and while the experience was challenging, it was also therapeutic.
“For the song to be nominated at the Crown Gospel awards was a shocker because I didn’t see it coming. It’s an honour to be amongst the best who produced great Gospel music videos in Mzansi this year,” said Nyathi.
He said Biggie Biggie deserves to win the award as apart from clean visuals, the song on its own is a powerful testament to the blessings we receive from God.
Meanwhile, Nyathi, will be travelling to Zimbabwe alongside Mzansi’s most followed Gospel ensemble, Spirit of Praise (SOP), as they are billed for a show at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre (ZIEC) Hall 3, in Bulawayo.
The event is part of the group’s Next Level tour.

SOP will bring its top ministers of the Gospel in the names of Ayanda Ntanzi, Dumi Mkokstad, Lufuno Dagada, Mpumi Mtsweni, Omega Khunou, Sindi Ntombela, Xola Toto, Zaza Mokhethi, as well as Everton Mlalazi.
Seasoned Psalmist and Pastor Mthunzi Namba will be the guest of honour.
Nyathi said it’s an honour to be performing home with Spirit of Praise as he promised fireworks and an energetic performance.
“It’s a good feeling to be going back to Zimbabwe with Spirit of Praise, especially in Bulawayo because we have a lot of people from the city of Kings who follow our music.
“SOP is loved all over Africa and in neighbouring countries like Namibia, Botswana and Mozambique. But, every time we visit Zimbabwe the feeling is always mutual.
“The crew has definitely adopted the country as its second home,” said Nyathi.
