THE annual Cannan Nkomo football tournament will be played at Esigodini on Saturday amid revelations that six clubs will battle it out for the top honours.
Nkomo, a former Chicken Inn midfielder and Mvuthu High School student, said the six outfits that are going to fight it out are Unity Village, Chiwororo, Habane Pirates, Esigodini United, Gwanda United and Sihlengeni FC.
a�?The six-team tournament will see the winners get a prize money of $300. The club that will come out as the second best will get four soccer balls. It is a way of giving back to the community that I grew up in,a�? said Nkomo who in the just ended Castle Lager Premier Soccer League was turning out for relegated Tsholotsho FC.
He added that his former teammates at Chicken Inn Thabani Goredema and Obadiah Tarumbwa will be guest players for Unity Village.
Another Chicken Inn star player Devine Lunga will do duty for Chiwororo alongside Thomas Chimenya and bustling Nqobile Mpala.
Chimenya and Mpala were in the 2017 season turning out for Iziqholo ZeZhwane. The former is also an ex-Chicken Inn and he boasts of a Gamecocks 2015 PSL championship medal.
Habane Pirates are the tournamentsa�� defending champions.
