Cape to Cairo Sniper show hoax

HARARE-based dancehall chanter, Donald “Sniper Storm” Chirisa has distanced himself from a show set for Cape to Cairo tonight despite his name appearing on an advert of the show. The advert features him and local musician Nashie.

The General, as Sniper is affectionately known in music circles, said he was not part of the gig and was disappointed that the show organisers decided to put up posters featuring him without his consent.

Speaking to Saturday Leisure, Sniper’s manager Chido Musasiwa accused the organisers of unprofessionalism and trying to tarnish the image of the musician.

“We have received pictures of a poster that is advertising a show featuring Sniper and some musician called Nashie in Bulawayo but we do not have an agreement with such people.

“It is a hoax, Sniper is not coming to Bulawayo and we want our fans to know the truth,” said Musasiwa.

She said Nashie called her last week trying to engage the musician for a gig in Bulawayo where Generations actress Khethiwe would be but failed to come up with an agreement.

“Nashie called last week but we failed to come up with an agreement because their budget was low and Sniper had to fly to and from Bulawayo since he has a serious commitment in Harare on Sunday.

“However, we are surprised to see him on posters because if he fails to turn up for the gig, it tarnishes the artiste’s image and jeopardises his image with Bulawayo fans,” explained Musasiwa.

Nashie of the Chibhorane fame confirmed that he would be performing with Sniper and urban grooves artiste Trevor Dongo but said he called Musasiwa for a different show.

“I am not part of the organisers of the Cape to Cairo gig. I was also approached for a performance and when I called Musasiwa, I was talking of a different show altogether,” said the Mboko hitmaker.

Cape to Cairo manager Bhekimpilo Ncube was adamant that Sniper would be a guest artiste at their night spot tonight after performing at Khethiwe’s cocktail party.

“Sniper has an agreement with the owner of Cape to Cairo; he will perform here with Nashie who is the main act.  I don’t have much detail but what I know is that my boss talked to organisers of the Khethiwe cocktail for him to perform here,” said Ncube.

Musasiwa said Sniper has a new album and fans might go there anticipating to hear fresh songs and be disappointed when he does not turn up.

He launched his seventh album Silver Bullet a week ago.
