adminAccording to the organisers of the show, King Shango, as Capleton is popularly in the dancehall circles, arrives at the Harare International Airport at 16:45 hours on Thursday.
“Everything is moving according to plan and Capleton’s arrival has been officially confirmed.
“He will arrive aboard a South African airline from Johannesburg and we are hoping that his legions of fans will come in their numbers to welcome their icon who commandspriest-like status within the reggae fraternity,” said Templeman.
Soon after his arrival, Shango is expected to make a guest appearance at an end-of-term school gig slated for Aquatic Complex in Chitungwiza, where he is expected to share words of wisdom with the youths.
This end-of-term gig will feature two DJs and dancehall artistes like Dadza D, Ricky Fire and Lady B among others.
King Shango made headlines in late 1980s when he ventured into music. In 1989, he got his first big international exposure when Stewart Brown, owner of a Toronto-based sound called Africa Star, flew him to Canada for a show.
Some of King Shango’s songs include “Bumbo Red”, “Number One”, “Look Good Chart”, “Women We Lotion” and “Alms House”.
There is no doubt that King Shango’s arrival will set Harare on fire.
To those who were fortunate enough to witness Capleton performing at the Andy Millar Hall and the Aquatic Complex in Chitungwiza when he last visited Zimbabwe in 2010, will testify that the country has an abundance of dancehall fans judging from the high turnout at the events.
Shango will be supported by a host of local disc jockeys and musicians that include Winky D, Sniper Storm, Guspy Warrior, Jiggaz, Freeman, Lady B and Lady Squanda.
On the turntables will be the talented trio of Abra Simz, Smiley and Gary B while Templeman, sound masters like Judgment Yard and Mighty Ducks are also billed to be among selectors of the day.
During his tour in 2010, Capleton visited the Rastafarian shrine — Dzimbahwe — in Glen Norah and toured the Great Zimbabwe in Masvingo.
