Caps coach permit application not on immigration records

The Department of Immigration said yesterday that that they had not seen Caps coach, Mark Harrison’s application for a work permit. This is in sharp contrast with what the club executive has been telling the media since the arrival of the Briton early last month.

The latest development will come as a further setback to the Makepekepe pre-season preparations as it is only days before the start of the preliminary Premiership registration.

Last week, Caps United chief executive officer Joe Makuvire told Chronicle Sport that Harrison was expected to start work today.

Makuvire said as a club they sent Harrison’s papers to the Department of Immigration for processing and the nomadic coach was awating response.

However the assistant regional immigration officer Francis Mabika yesterday said he was getting a bit tired of being asked the same question that has the same answer about Harrison.

“This is certainly not a sign of disrespect to you my brother but I’m getting a bit tired of this whole thing. Caps united must come out in the open and respond but just for the record we have not issued a work permit to that coach, the rest get it from Caps United,” said Mabika.

A police clearance from the country where one is coming from is usually the major determinant. If there are issues still needing clarity the applicant is likely to wait much longer for the document.

Harrison’s former employers, Black Leopards threatened to take legal action against the 55-year-old coach for breach of contract.

The former Cup Kings, whose president is the Premier Soccer League boss Twine Phiri, has been under assistant coaches Brenna Msiska and Fungai “Tostao” Kwashi following the departure of Taurai Mangwiro and his entire backroom staff to Harare City.

The players’ register was also affected when Tapiwa Khumbuyani left for How Mine and goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube, Tendai Samanja, Nicholas Alifandika as well as Honey Chimutimunzeve all followed Mangwiro to Harare City.

Efforts to get a comment from Caps United were fruitless as Phiri, Makuvire and spokesperson Joyce Kapota’s mobile could not be contacted.
