Bulawayo Chiefs 0………….0 CAPS United
CAPS UNITED struck the upright and passed up the better chances as Bulawayo Chiefs escaped with a point from a goalless Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter at Luveve Stadium yesterday.
The visitors started strongly despite losing goalkeeper Washington Arubi to injury after only three minutes. Victor James replaced him and settled quickly.
CAPS forced Wallace Magalane into an early save before the upright denied them the opening goal.
Chiefs gradually came into the contest and threatened when Gonclaves Chissele met a cross with a header, but James kept it out.
Magalane was called upon again at the other end, producing an excellent save to deny Chawononga Kaonga and keep Chiefs level.
After CAPS had enjoyed the better opportunities in the opening half, Chiefs returned from the break with more purpose.
The hosts forced CAPS deeper during the opening 20 minutes of the second half, but struggled to turn their pressure into clear chances.
Chiefs coach John Nyikadzino admitted his side needed to improve in the attacking third.
“We wanted a win since we were playing at home. Every point counts at this stage of the season. It is work in progress. I think we have to work on our attacking third,” he said.
CAPS coach Takesure Chiragwi was left frustrated by his side’s failure to make their first-half opportunities count.
“I thought we had chances where we could have buried the game. It was difficult to penetrate in the second-half,” he said.
