CAPS LOSE AGAIN. . . It’s the worst phase for Chitembwe

CAPS United just keep on losing and the opposition don’t even need to score or hit a shot on target.

Yesterday, an own goal by Marshall Machazane condemned the crippled Green Machine to yet another defeat at the National Sports Stadium.

Coach Lloyd Chitembwe said it was the worst phase of his time as a coach.

“It’s a very deflecting and disappointing, from the result viewpoint I thought it’s extremely disappointing,” he said.

“I think this will be ranked as one of the poorest phases of my career.

“Performance wise, I thought it was a decent performance, but it needed more than just a decent performance.

“It needed us to have more courage, character, you know we’ve gone quite a number of games without a win.

“So, obviously, you’re expected to have more than just a good performance. I thought it was decent but I’m disappointed with the way I’ve conceded.

“The situation was under control, just one or two mistakes we made but that can cost you.

“In a game of football it is those small margins that define what football is about,” he said.

He felt his boys had the upper hand in the match but failed to utilise their chances.

“If you get chances and you don’t convert them into goals, these are some of these things that will happen.

“I thought in terms of dominating the game, we did dominate.

“What we need to do is to just keep on working on the same aspects, football aspects are just the same, what we need to do is to just continue working on the belief that we can win a game.

“And, when we can win a game, it’s the beginning of winning more and this is what we just need to work on.”

ZPC coach Rodwell Dhlakama said the most important thing was to collect maximum points.

“The most important thing is that we’ve won the game in as much as we didn’t play very well, with conviction.

“The opposition created a lot of chances, which they failed to utilise. We got our chance, scored and managed to hold on.

“What is important for us is to move away from relegation because when we are playing in the relegation zone, we have a lot of pressure there.

“I think it’s important for the fans, players and for the technical team because that will also bring and inject a lot of confidence into the team and the whole set-up,” he said.

He added:

“We are not for relegation, I have said this, we have a team which is well resourced, we will also try to look for more players to beef up the team, the window is opening in a few days.

“We are working flat out to make sure that we get the players, even from the farm or church league.

“We want to move away from the recycling of players, we want to inject young blood into the team. “Football is for the youngsters, for the sake of the future of the national team.”
