CAPS United did themselves a big favour, bouncing back to winning ways as they dismissed Kwekwe United 2-0 on   the road.

The Green Machine scored through Tendai Matindife in the 13th minute and Kundai Benyu in the 41st minute.

The match got off to a dramatic start when match official Mercy Maimbo pointed to the spot after a foul on Mabiala.

The penalty decision sparked a protest from Kwekwe United’s players, delaying the game’s restart for some minutes.

After the brief interruption, Matindife stepped up to take the penalty and coolly converted, beating Elton Nechiware in the Kwekwe United goal.

The Green Machine doubled their lead just before half-time when Benyu scored his side’s second goal, capitalising on a well-worked cut back by Nyasha Chintuli in the 41st minute.

Mutatu’s header in the 73rd minute was easily collected by an alert Nare.

Kenneth Pasuwa was lifted off the stretcher in the 84th minute, leaving Kwekwe with 10 men. They had already used all their substitutions.

CAPS United assistant coach Alex Sigion, who was in charge in the absence of head coach Ian Bakala, said they needed victory.

“I am sure it’s a much needed result. Looking at the position we are in, we just need to finish at a respectable position in this first round. And we told the boys, let’s go and fight for the badge.

“And the boys, they showed up and we got the result we wanted,” he said.

Kwekwe United head Paul Chimalizeni felt that defensive errors are letting the team down and they will work on that going forward.

“We played very well, but unfortunately we conceded goals and we tried to come back, but we couldn’t get goals.

“So we are going to regroup and try to rectify our mistakes and we take it from there.

“We are conceding more goals, so we have to work on defence. I think if we work on that aspect, then we try to perfect it,” said Chimalizeni.
