FINALLY, they managed to do what they had failed to since October last year.

Thanks to another sensational goal from on-fire striker William Manondo, CAPS United posted two consecutive wins in the league after edging Yadah Stars in an exciting Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.

The victory followed last weekend’s 3-0 win against Hwange at the same venue.

And Manondo was the hero once again.

He blasted the ball home from close range, three minutes into added time to send Makepekepe fans into delirium.

It was Manondo’s fourth goal of the season, which he described as a morale booster ahead of next Sunday’s Harare Derby against Dynamos at Rufaro Stadium.

“As a striker, you need to keep scoring goals and it was important for me to score again,” said Manondo. “Next week we play Dynamos and I think this win was a morale booster.  Of course, we are already looking forward to that match, but for now we have to enjoy this win.”

Makepekepe had some good chances in both halves.

Junior Bunjira was, as usual, menacing on the right flank, while Kingsley Mureremba controlled the midfield.

Makepekepe could have surged ahead in the 50th minute, but Ralph Kawondera inexplicably headed over from close range a cross from Bunjira.

As action swung from one end to the other, Yadah launched an attack that ended with Blessed Ndereki hitting the post, before Tonderai Mateyaunga made some multiple saves in a goalmouth melee.

Yadah had another chance in the first half that was spurned by Proser Kafelapanjila. The victory pushed CAPS United’s points tally to 16 and three behind Highlanders.

For Yadah, it was a second consecutive defeat that left them with 10 points and 15th on the table.

They missed the services of star player Khama Billliat, who is on suspension after he was red-carded last week against Herentals.

Former Warriors striker Evans Rusike was a lone striker upfront.

Yadah coach Thomas Ruzive blamed the loss on lack of concentration.

“We played very well, but we lost concentration in the last minute, which saw us conceding such a goal,” he said. “But overall, our game plan had worked very well and we also created a lot chances, but we failed the chances.”

At Luveve Stadium, the penalty that Never Rauzhi missed in the second half proved costly for Bulawayo Chiefs, who were forced to settle for a goalless stalemate against Chicken Inn yesterday.

That missed opportunity counts as one that could have changed fortunes for Amakhosi Amahle on the day.

For Chicken Inn, they have to give credit to their goalkeeper Donovan Bernard, who gave his all to save his team.

The match was the second consecutive goalless draw following Chicken Inn’s nil-all stalemate against Dynamos last weekend.

However, Rauzhi had the opportunity to separate the two sides after winning a penalty in the 60th minute, but he blew it.

He had been felled by Lincoln Mangaira inside the box.

At the Green Fuel Arena in Chipinge, Anelka Chivandire scored the only goal of the afternoon in the 34th minute as Green Fuel beat ZPC Kariba 1-0.

Taurai Mangwiro was in charge of the home team, while Saul Chaminuka, who is expected to be overall in charge, watched from the terraces amid reports he has not yet been released by Premiership newcomers Bikita Minerals.

At Wadzanai Stadium, Simba Bhora came from behind to beat champions Ngezi Platinum 2-1 and ease pressure on coach Tonderai Ndiraya.

Striker Tapiwa Mandinyenya gave Ngezi Platinum the lead after 28 minutes, while Simba Bhora scored their goals in the final 15 minutes with a 75th minute equaliser by Billy Vheremu and an own goal by Kudzai Chigwida settling it in the 85th minute.
