Scores of CAPS United supporters converged at Muyengwa’s rural home, with some coming from as far as Bulawayo, as the Green Machine showed its united colours in its moment of tragedy.
Muyengwa was injured on his way to Zvishavane to cheer his team in their bid to win the season-opening NetOne Charity Shield.
Allan Munyanyiwa, the owner of the Toyota Noah that overturned in that accident, was also in Chiendambuya to pay his last respects to a comrade.
“Such a good friend will always be missed and you could see how influential and friendly he was by the messages from each speaker at the graveside.
“We are grateful for the support we got from the CAPS United family, who stood by us through and through.”
The CAPS United family came together, in a shining display of unity, in its moment of tragedy with Farai Jere, who quit as club vice-president at the beginning of the year, donating US$1 500 towards the funeral costs, part of which was used to secure the coffin.
CAPS United legend, Lloyd Chitembwe, axed from his job as assistant coach last year, also paid his respects to the family.
Meanwhile, a number of CAPS United fans used The Herald’s online feedback column to pour condolence messages and also praise the unity demonstrated by the club’s leadership.
Here are some of the messages:
Eddmusy — Rest in Peace Lawrence. We hope we shall meet in future. You are a CAPS United FC hero.
Dzvagwa — RIP our brother. Kepekepe Bhora.
Big Shons — Thanks to Farai Jere thats a sign of a good leader . Mr Jere may God bless you.
Eric — RIP supporter.
Mr Jere thank you for showing your visible leadership.
Fogmaster — RIP Green Machiner!
Will be missed by the legion of other Green Machiners. Peace!
Muza — Good leaders are not made but born, they don’t shy away from responsibility but confront it head-on, when you least expect them to provide a shoulder for you to lean on, that’s when they are there for you.
Amid everything bad that has happened in the share ownership controversy, Farai Jere has just shown his true side, the human side, which is more important because being a good man is better than being a good football administrator.
When you were needed you gave a helping hand and showed that you are a true leader and a true CAPS United son, to the very end.
Others will choose to ridicule you but when there was tragedy, they hid away from responsibility iwe ukati rega ndibatsire hama dzangu.
Tazviona baba Mwari vakukomborere mune zvese zvauchaita Farai Jere.
