Caps United scoffs at social media rumours…‘I have never heard a story of Jere hitting hard times nor seen any indication’

THE Caps United leadership has refuted social media claims that the team’s future was uncertain as its major shareholder Farai Jere was facing serious financial challenges. The Green Machine, however, acknowledged that the club was in one month’s salary arrears with its players before hitting back at those spreading the collapse claims saying they are agents of destruction who want to destabilise the club following its good start to the season.

Club legend and board member responsible for marketing, Alois Bunjira, said it was business as usual at Makepekepe and prophets of doom will be shamed. He also scoffed at the allegation that Jere, who owns 60 percent shares at Makepekepe, had hit hard times.

“Many untruths are peddled on social media. I have never heard a story of Jere hitting hard times nor seen any indication. The man has always been the same and it is business as usual,” said Bunjira. He said those bent on seeing Caps United fold will have many miserable years ahead of them as the club was there to stay.

Last month the players embarked on an industrial action over unpaid salaries and winning bonuses but the issue was resolved after club president Jere assured them that their money was coming. The strike came soon after the team had chartered a plane to Bulawayo for their league match against Chicken Inn which they won 2-1.

“There may be elements that want to destabilise Caps United seeing we have had a good start to the season. Yes, the club has a one month salary backlog but the players have been addressed and the backlog will be cleared soon. It is business as usual at Caps United,” said Bunjira who played for the Green Machine from 1996 to 1999 with his debut season probably his best ever. The Green Machine takes on Highlanders tomorrow afternoon.
