AIRMEN Chapungu, whose season so far has been characterised by inconsistency would be hoping to bounce back to winning ways when they take on struggling Mutare City at Ascot Stadium tomorrow. Despite securing a hard-fought 2–1 win over Chicken Inn last weekend, the Gweru-based outfit failed to build on that win and once again succumbed to a 1-0 loss to Triangle who scored late in the match.
The airmen who are fourth from bottom with 15 points and whose season target was to be in the top four know that they need to start picking points at this stage if they are to entertain any chances of being at the other end of the table.
John Nyikadzino, the Chapungu gaffer is aware of the challenge ahead and said that he is working on the psychological aspect of his players so as to ensure that there is some consistency in the team.
“Of course every coach would be worried if the team lacks consistency. However, we are working on that aspect of the game so that the players have self confidence and apply themselves well. If you look at our last game against Triangle we created better chances but failed to convert,” he said.
“Everyone is available for selection and competition is now very tough and this is motivating players to work hard. I am confident that we are going to come out with a positive result,” Nyikadzino added.
The Chapungu gaffer has roped in former Tripple B duo of Tafadzwa Maengeni and goalpoacher Aleck Marime to bolster the team. Marime who made his debut against Chicken Inn will be a sure bet for a starting place to partner Allen Tavarwisa in attack.
The duo will be complemented by pacy winger Xolani Ncube, arguably Chapungu’s best player so far this season. However, after a gritty performance against Highlanders where Mutare City shared the spoils in a nil all draw, Chapungu can only underestimate their opponents at their own peril.
