OUTGOING Castle Lager Premiership champions CAPS United have congratulated their successors to the throne, FC Platinum, for winning their maiden league title. FC Platinum were crowned 2017 league champions after they finished the season on top of the table with 72 points, two better than closest rivals Dynamos.

The Green Machine, who won the title last season and went on to reach the mini-league of the CAF Champions League, also wished the platinum miners well in Africa. Makepekepe, who finished fifth following a spirited comeback in the latter stages of the campaign, posted a congratulatory message on their website yesterday.

“The Presidium, the Board, Management, and the entire CAPS United family would like to convey their congratulatory message to FC Platinum for winning the 2017 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League. To FC Platinum, we wish them the best in the African Safari,” read the statement. ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa has congratulated FC Platinum for being crowned the best for the year 2017. Chiyangwa said the platinum miners should now brace for more success in the Champions League.

“We would like to pay tribute to the club’s board of directors, the executive committee, the technical team, the players and indeed their fans for this historical achievement. We celebrate with you and wish you all the best in your future endeavours and ask you to build on this success. Now go on and be worthy representatives for Zimbabwe in the Total CAF Champions League and conquer Africa,” said Chiyangwa.

FC Platinum’s neighbours and bitter football rivals Shabanie Mine also sent message of goodwill. Shabanie Mine Media and Liaison officer Weston Wesley said Norman Mapeza and his men had made Zvishavane proud.

“It is from the bottom of our hearts as Shabanie Mine Football Club family to extend our gratitude and happiness to you our sweet neighbours for winning and being crowned Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions in 2017, a feat many teams tried to achieve but failed.

“There were many obstacles along the way, the path was thorny and the journey was long to walk it alone but with God by your side you make it as the first team outside Harare and Bulawayo to win PSL championship. History breaking indeed!

“We are still together next season we wish you good luck in your African safari endeavours. Once again makorokoto, amhlope congratulations FC Platinum president Mr (George) Mawere, your team, FC Platinum Holdings, Teecherz Furnishers and staff behind the scenes you really made Zvishavane proud,” said Wesley.
