CAPS won’t burden Josta

CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe says he is not going to burden veteran Joel “Josta” Ngodzo to deliver despite the fans’ high expectations.

The Green Machine face Bulawayo City in a Castle Lager Premiership at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Ngodzo was acquired to bolster the club’s midfield options and Chitembwe confirmed the midfielder was available for selection.

Makepekepe are unbeaten in their last five assignments and edged WhaWha 2-1 at Ascot last weekend. “It’s good to have Josta in our camp. We know what he is capable of.

“We know what he can contribute to the team depending on the state of his fitness and mental preparedness.

“We are going to be patient and help him settle in gradually because we all know what he can give us when he is at his best,” said Chitembwe.

He also hinted that Ronald Chinyengetere, who has seen little action in the second half of the campaign due to injury, is another option on Sunday.

“We have a full-strength squad, save for Chinyengetere, who was on a recovery path.

“I’m sure this weekend he will be ready to play and we are expecting a difficult game but, as CAPS United, we will play to win.

“The build-up to the second round of the season has been good.

“Our squad is getting stronger and the target now is to finish the season in a respectable position.”

Ngodzo reunited with the Green Machine family last month on a two-year deal, after parting ways with his boyhood club Highlanders.

The midfielder enjoyed the highlight of his career at CAPs United where he won the 2019 Castle Lager Soccer Star of the Year accolade.

The club’s fans hailed the move to rope in the experienced midfielder after enduring a nightmarish run, which has seen them struggling to move out of the relegation picture.

Chitembwe’s men are four points above the drop-zone, while Bulawayo City are third from the basement.
