Captivity will not last forever

The Voice of God

My position as a pastor has given me the privilege to know that so many people are going through a lot of problems in this season.

Many are in debt; some are in deep troubles. Some are in doubt that they will ever come out of their crises and others found themselves in a high level of despondency.

Some of these problems linger for so long that the people in them conclude that they will never end.

However, the following scripture proves to the contrary. “When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, the Lord hath done great things for them. The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad [Ps.126.1-3. KJV].

The scripture paints a picture of the situation that Israel found themselves as a nation in captivity.

This refers to the 70 years that they spent in Babylon as captives [Jeremiah 29vs20]. Seventy years is a long time for someone to be a captive. However, the consolation is in the fact that it actually ended.

By divine inspiration, God has led us to this word today to bring an encouragement to us giving us hope that whatever we are going through will not last forever. To help us access the breakthrough that we so desire, we must understand and accept the following realities.

WHEN: “when” is a word that connotes certainty. “When” signifies the certainty of the end of captivity. Had the Psalmist used the word “if”, we would have found ourselves in a situation of probability indicating that God may or may not deliver us. Owing to the fact that the word used signifies certainty, it simply means that whatever situation you are going through is a matter of time.

Our consolation is found in the fact that every captivity has an expiry date. It does not matter how long the night may be, the sun will definitely rise again.

We need to understand that no situation is permanent and hope is a valuable commodity in the ending of captivity. Do not lose hope; do not give up because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.

GOD: The guarantee that captivity will end is not in the promise, but in the ability of he who made the promise. The Psalmist emphasised that the captivity was turned by God. Israel was held captive by the strongest and most powerful king on earth at that time named Nebuchadnezzar. He had a military might that no man could break. If he took control, no one could wrestle the captive off his grip.

However, he was not God. The breaking of captivities can only be made possible through the hand of the almighty God. Irrespective of what power is involved in the troubles that you are facing, remember that there is someone greater than all-God almighty. A problem will seem like it will never end, because we have not submitted it to God. His other name is Alpha and Omega simply meaning “The Beginning and The End”. If God is the end it means he has all it takes to end that captivity.

IT’S NOT A DREAM: When one has been in captivity for 70 years, every hope of release will be lost. But the God we serve will never forget his people. One thing I have learnt about God is that he may not meet your schedule but he is never late. We lose hope in his ability to deliver because we are expecting him to fit into our schedule and most of the time he will not. God may choose to deliver you using a different direction so that when it is all over, you will have no doubt that you came out only by His power. This message is for someone who has given up hope of ever coming out of a certain captivity. The voice of God is telling you that in the next few days you will feel like you are dreaming. Captivity is coming to an end in the name of Jesus.

PREPARE TO LAUGH: When people overstay in captivity, laughter is lost, singing is gone, joy disappears. We should never forget that we serve a God that specialises in making people laugh.

God is definitely interested in your joy and happiness. Prepare to laugh again. Get ready to sing again, get ready to dance again. Get ready to rejoice because God has just pulled your case file and something big is around the corner. If you are still in the land of the

living, no matter how hopeless the situation may be, God is not finished with you. Your enemies will still testify on your behalf that God has done great things for you. Receive this word by faith and expect your miracle.
