THE US$2 million trailer assembling firm set up by the diversifying Mutare Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) company – Mega Market – is now operational and is eyeing both local and export markets.
This was revealed on Wednesday by Mega Market (Pvt) Ltd managing director and chief executive Mr Muhammad Shiraan Ahmed during a project validation and implementation assessment mission to selected projects by the Special Advisor to the President on Monitoring Implementation of Government Programmes and Projects, Honourable Dr Jorum Gumbo.
Mr Ahmed said that by assembling trailers in the country, the company is looking forward to playing a role in substituting imports, adding value locally, creating skilled jobs for our young people, and building linkages with supporting industries.
“In October last year, when His Excellency the President commissioned our wheat mill here at Mega Market, we made an undertaking: that among our pipeline of projects, we would establish a trailer assembly facility in Mutare to serve both local and export markets,” he said. “Today, you have come to see that undertaking in implementation, moving from word to work.
Why trailers? Because Zimbabwe moves on wheels.
“Every tonne of wheat, maize, fertiliser and fuel that this country consumes travels by road. By assembling trailers here at home, we substitute imports, add value locally, create skilled jobs for our young people, and build linkages with supporting industries such as the Manhize steel works – keeping value, skills and employment within our borders.
“It is one more way in which we build the economy brick by brick, bolt by bolt, and beam by beam.”
In his remarks after the tour, Minister Gumbo, who visited Mega Market Trailer assembling firm, Manicaland State University student hostel expansion and Christmas Pass by-pass road, said the numerous infrastructure and industrial projects being implemented across the country are ample evidence of the Second Republic’s unwavering commitment to translating national policy into measurable development outcomes.
“Today’s visit is far more than an inspection of construction sites and infrastructure projects,” he said.
“It is an opportunity to witness first-hand the practical implementation of His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s development agenda.
“One anchored on production, industrialisation, infrastructure modernisation, innovation and inclusive economic growth. These projects stand as tangible evidence of the Second Republic’s unwavering commitment to translating national policy into measurable development outcomes.
“They demonstrate that Vision 2030 is no longer an abstract aspiration but a living national programme being implemented across provinces, districts and communities.
“The Second Republic recognises that sustainable economic transformation is built upon productive investment. Every strategic project implemented today becomes the foundation of tomorrow’s jobs, industry, enterprises and improved standards of living.”
Speaking during the same function, Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Advocate Misheck Mugadza said: “The Second Republic does not just announce projects but opens its doors and lets the nation see them being built. Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo, as the President has always said.
“This university, the by-pass road, are being built by Zimbabweans for Zimbabweans. Today’s journey, ladies and gentlemen, has taken us across three living examples of Vision 2030 in motion.
“In commerce we have Mega Mega Market, for connectivity we have the Christmas Pass by-pass road and in education the student hostels here at Manicaland State University for Applied Sciences.
“These are not isolated projects. Together they form one coherent story of a province rising, producing more, moving goods faster and educating its youth.”
