TWO car dealers landed in the dock on Monday after they allegedly stole and sold a truck that had been left at a restaurant after a mechanical problem.
Nyasha Casper Chorwadza and Fortune Mlambo were not asked to plead when they appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo, who released them on US$100 bail each.
The court heard that on March 1, the pair, acting in connivance with Zenzo Churu and Matimba Masawuso who are still at large, hatched a plan to steal the complainant’s truck, a Man 26292 tanker blue and silver on registration number ADC4406, Chassis Number F6104440430 and Engine Number V115A0012974 which had been left at Family 24 after it developed a mechanical fault.
The advertisement was seen by Addington Mbabu, who showed interest in buying the truck.
They went with the buyer and showed him the truck from where it was parked.
The parties agreed that Addington Mbabu was to pay US$2300.
Mbabu paid US$2000 and left a balance of US$300 whereupon the two and their accomplices promised to give the buyer the registration book upon payment of the outstanding balance.
The complainant discovered the offence when she intended to collect her truck from where it had been left parked.
The complainant then made a police report after failing to locate her truck. Investigations made led to the recovery of the stolen truck and the arrest of the duo.
Their accomplices are still at large. Takudzwa Jambawo appeared for the State.
